It is the right for each person to lead a comfortable and peaceful life with no fear of being pushed away or sidelined due to various factors such as race or gender. However, as much as many people understand the laws stipulated to protect each individual, there exists a small group of people who don’t want to acknowledge other people. With such a conflict of interest, commotions have arisen, and people have been subjected to hate and discrimination. Since such incidences have been on the rise since the early 19th century, lobbying groups that tend to talk on behalf of the discriminated people have been formed.

This article is going to take a look at two groups that have been on the forefront in fighting for the equal rights of refugees, immigrants and supporting civil rights.

National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (NNIRR)

The National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights was founded in the year 1986 with the sole purpose being to defend and expand on the rights of refugees and immigrants regardless of where they came from or their immigration status. Read more: Jim Larkin | Crunchbase

For over three decades now, the organization has drawn attention and membership from a diverse group of immigrant communities as well as actively built successful alliances with various global movements that support social and economic justice.

The National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights bases its policies on four pillars namely Immigrant Justice & Rights, Immigration Policy Returns, International Migrant Rights & Global Justice, and the Seeking Border Justice. Each pillar is subjected to deal with different issues affecting immigrants and refugees.

For instance, the Immigrant Justice & Rights policy has been set aside to address the plights that refugees face in their own countries or foreign ones. On the other hand, the Seeking Border Justice policy primary role is to address the issues that affect refugees when they try to enter another country without the required documents.

Since immigration and the influx of refugees in different countries tend to affect everybody, NNIRR encourages the ordinary citizen to get involved and offer a helping hand via funding and signing of petitions. For instance; the organization currently has an active petition which if successful will address the detention of asylum seekers and families who are entering the USA.

Once the required signatures have been attained, the lobby group will submit the petition to the mandated government bodies. The main aim of this petition is to address the harassment subjected to asylum seekers by the Trump administration.

Lacey & Larkin Frontera Fund

The Lacey & Larkin Frontera Fund is an organization that fights for the civil and human rights. As the name suggests, the organization was formed by two journalists namely Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey after they got paid more than $3.75 million in a court settlement after their illegal arrest and detention by the Maricopa County Sherriff Joe Arpaio.

The primary purpose of the fund is to support different groups that advocate for the rights of immigrants, human, and civil society groups.
